Healthy Eating Week - November 2007 Scoil Bhríde, Crossmahon officially launched its Healthy Eating Policy on 21 st November. This ceremony also marked its official participation in the Health Promoting School initiative. All classes did projects based on nutrition. The food pyramid was displayed and explained. The importance of a balanced diet was stressed. Including fruit and vegetables and drinking sufficient water and milk were encouraged. The official launch by James Masters is a culmination of hard work and interest in a healthy lifestyle by the school community. Pupils, staff, representatives from the parents association, representatives from the board of management and a HSE Health Promotion Officer attended a most enjoyable afternoon.
Parents were present to help with the food tasting and all present were treated to a variety of delicious and healthy foods such as smoothies, fruit, seeds, breads etc. The many sponsors were thanked for their generous supplies of nutritious food without which the event could not have happened. A week long programme of activities took place to coincide with the official launch. The pupils were treated to a visit from the Mobile Farm, Animal Magic, Gardai, dieticians and a dental hygienist. Activities included food sampling, lucky food dip, fruity first breaks, performances of action songs, poems, raps, dances, jokes and a table quiz with health and safety as the main theme. An information evening with presentations on the importance of a balanced diet, exercise, oral hygiene and substance use saw a large attendance. Scoil Bhríde proudly celebrated its MASTERY as a Health promoting School. |
